PhD, MIOMMM, AMEI, AFHEA
Tariq is an expert in surface equipment design, modelling, and optimisation. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from Kano University of Science and Technology (KUST) Wudil, MSc in Petroleum Engineering from Teesside University, and PhD in Chemical Engineering (Separator Optimisation) also from Teesside University (UK). As part of his PhD, Tariq has used CFD to compare and evaluate different separator sizing algorithms, developed a novel separator sizing model based on Generalised Reduced Gradient (GRG) non-linear optimisation, and also designed and developed a pilot scale three-phase separator test rig.
Dr Ahmed has over ten years academic and industrial experience at Teesside University, Bayero University Kano, Global Franchise Training Group, TTE Technical Training, Darby Tech, Shaheed Petroleum and Golden Penny Flour Mills. He is also a stakeholder at Saudat Memorial College and a mentor at Kano State Scientific and Literary Society. He has supervised and co-supervised a number of undergraduate and two masters research projects.
Tariq has over a dozen journal and conference publications nationally and internationally. He is a trained Lean Six Sigma Green Belt, a Professional Member of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (MIOMMM), an Associate Member of the Energy Institute (AMEI), an Associate Fellow of Higher Education Academy (AFHEA), and a member of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE). Tariq’s work at Teesside University has led to a scholarship by Darby Tech, he is a recipient of PTDF Presidential scholarship and 2 times best presenter at Teesside University Graduate conferences.
Identifying improved approaches and enhanced solutions to improving vibrant minds is what drives and inspires Tariq. His advice to the all the mentees reading this is as Openheimer’s to his brother, Frank; “try to understand really, to your own satisfaction, thoroughly and honestly, the few things in which you are most interested; because it is only when you have learnt to do that, when you realise how hard and how very satisfying it is, that you will appreciate fully the more spectacular things like relativity and mechanistic biology.”
In his leisure time, Tariq enjoys reading, playing squash and FIFA on PS4.
